e46 320d Engine wanted

Hi all, I recently bought a e46 sportspack 320d for my wife. Few days later the engine ceased,no warning lights just a rattling noise and it died. Does anyone know where I can buy another engine?preferably from a accident damaged vehicle.Most places want the old engine as trade for a recon one,which I don't really want neither the lexus conversion. Thank you in advance.

Why not try and recon the engine you have? Maybe it's not so badly damaged.

Ernest I thought about that,but the mechanic reckons its better to find another one because the engine and turbo ran bone dry and might work out costly too.

ran bone dry as in no oil?Surely there would have been a low oil pressure warning on dash?

Ok. Then in that case you must also figure out why it ran dry and why it never showed up on the dash. The rattling may have been the swirl flaps . Check previous threads and check the precautions needed on the 320d motor. That way your new engine will last

What does the CPA say about something like this? Worth a look.

Spend some time looking at what exactly went POOF in the engine, then decide whether a new engine will be needed. I had a scare with my SUV the other day which turned out to be dirty diesel. I were ready to change an engine too... Luckily I calmed down a bit and assessed the situation first.
