E46 - 320d Damper Pulley

Morning,

I have a friend that drives a 2005, E46 320d sport 4 door and his damper pulley is wobbling. He only notices it this past weekend as he has been having problems with his aircon belt keep climbing off.

We have phoned goldwagen for replacement and they charged R3800 for it, not sure if we can get this cheaper. The question he has asked (I am driving proudly a N/A 6 pot 330i) was what is the purpose of the damper pulley and seeing that he isn't using it (no aircon belt on it) what impact that will have on his car as well as the purpose of this damper pulley. How long does he have before he needs to replace this and is it going to damage anything on the car like this.

Any help and price or place will be highly appreciated. Oh and before i forget, this is his 2nd one in 7 years so what is the life expectancy of the damper pulley.

It runs your aircon belt and the fan belt so you are using it. Its a regular fault with the diesels. 2 years back goldwagen quoted me R2500 and BMW quoted R6500. Dont think you will get cheaper than goldwagen.

Update:

We managed to find replacement at Goldwagen for like think R4500 and then we had it installed for another R1000.

BMW wanted almost R7K for it and my friend did learn in the last few days that it is a regular replacement part, but thank you for all the help.

Really appreciated
