E46 318i_ Car goes off whilst driving

I have a problem and i need help with my 2004 E46 318i!! My car has a tendency of cutting of of while i'm driving. It fist shows a sign of a battery then it goes off. I've just replaced the fan belt, checked the alternator everything was fine and also replaced the battery as per the diagnostic report.

Another thing is that sometimes before it goes of it looses power and then it shows that warning light (triagnle one) on the dash board then it stops. when i switch it on the the gearbox light goes on as well.

What can seem to a problem?

Your valvetronic stepper motor has gone faulty, it happened 2 on my old 318ti with the n42 motor , a replacement motor is about R4000

Get it diagnosed, but it sounds like your crank position sensor.

if the momentum of the car rolling forward "kicks" the engine back to life its most probably CPS

I agree. Had the same issue on my old E46 318i facelift. And It was the the crank position sensor. Hate to be the perveyor of doom but it was closely followed by the steering angle sensor! Ended up with th ABS and DSC lights on permanently on because of it! Good luck mate!

I had something like this and it was my earth cable shorting on the body when the motor tilts under acceleration.... was a Ford though...

Thank u so much for all your advices. I ve fittet the new crank sonsor the car is fine no more switching off BUT now the triangle comes on and off the when I reach the step hill it picks up very slow nd my wheels goes to the side. Am confussed now.

Wheels go to the side? im also confused :thinking:

Any other warning lights on the dash apart from the yellow triangle? maybe the EML light or the Handbrake light come on(in yellow not Red)?

sounds like your crank shaft sensor is faulty. very common problem with the 318's. mine was also cutting out on the freeway! not very safe! orange triangle and battery light also flashing. changed the crank shaft sensor and its all good now!
