e46 318i warning lights

i had this error come up today on my dash in my E46 318i (2004)

DSC light
brake warning light (i think)

what would cause those lights to come on? i immediately pulled over, turned the car off, started again after about 10seconds, lights were off and have since NOT come on.

when i turn TC off, just the one in the centre (DSC) lights up. this happened while i was driving, i didn't press any buttons.

The DSC has 3 settings..
1. all on - no lights lit up
2. little bit on - single light on (DSC) light
3. all off - DSC light on & Handbrake light on


If it came on while driving, could be error with the DSC or something else..

Get a diagnostics & have the codes read..

once again this error has come up. in the past it just went away without me doing anything. does anyone know what would cause this?

I put my money on a stearing angle sensor! This happened to our 318 a couple of moths ago.

so i check the sensors on each wheel. by check i mean, removed and cleaned. once done i took the car for a test drive. the lights were all still there. i figured it would reset itself overnight by some miracle. and it did. started up the next morning and everything is back to normal.

but, yesterday (in heavy rain), the lights come back on. so now i am back to square one. i will check the steering angle sensor as Swiegie pointed out. hopefully i come right this time.

When you press the DSC button once the traction control will not totally disengage. If you hold the DSC button for 5 seconds, both lights will come on and the sideways mode is enabled.
