E46 318i Valvetronic motor

My valvtronic motor seems to be gone. EML light is on and car goes into limp mode. 175k on the clock and its never been changed. I have been quoted around R6000 to replace it with an original BMW part. The part alone from BMW is around R4800. I came across a place that claims to remanufacture this part and offers a 1 year warranty for R950 on exchange. They are called GERMANCARSERVICES on Xavier street. Has anyone used them before and are they reputable? Can this part actually be remanufactured and reused? They charge around R1600 with fitment so I can actually replace this part around 4 times compared to the 6K cost of original part. I would appreciate any comments.

I was in the same boat a few years ago. I opted to replace mine with a new part. 1600 vs 6000. though decision to make.

Good luck.

Thanks for the response DeanoBlado. I wouldnt have minded going the recon route as im planning to sell the car but opted to get it done properly as its my daily drive and the whole tappet cover needs to be removed to redo if they stuff it up. Just as a matter of interest to other people that have this problem. I got a price of R2800 from Incomex in Centurion for the valvetronic motor. Its a VDO branded part and according to the guy I spoke to its the exact same part that the stealers get. Thats a R2K saving from the stealers price for the exact same thing.
