e46 318i starter replacement

Hi All,

Love the new look. Kudos to the admin guys

I tried to replace my 2001 e46 318i's starter this weekend but just couldn't get the damn thing out.

Is there a easy way of doing it, or is this one of those things you have to take it in for? And does anyone know any decent BMW techs in the fourways / bryanston area?

Yup starter is quite a bitch, did a 330i's a couple of months back, took around 3 days of hard labour and my wrist still haven't recovered.

they are mostly special order hey, got a set from a specialist tool place in pretoria, about R400-00 for a set.. cant recall the name of the shop now though.. will post it as soon as i recall it.

edit : i remember seeing sets on ebay too, but i was in a hurry and had to have it now.. if you are not in a hurry, have a look there too..

Cool man, thanks. Was thinking of having a look at RS as they usually have some interesting tools

I purchased a little while ago a set of rachet spanners, which are out of this world,

I cannot imagine working in the garage without these...

Yup, RS is not cheap, but they are sometimes the only place you can get the more exotic type tools.

@leonard, a set of those ratchet spanner is also on my to-get-list.

Looks like you have to remove the intake manifold. What will "break" if you do manage to get it off?
