E46 318i Stalls, rough idle

Howzit guys,

I have an issue with my 318i Touring. The car lost power and died a few days ago and I parked it.

I then checked the forums and after seeing suggestions to check for fuel smell, etc, I decided to try start it again and it started, but with a rough idle.

How does one determine if the issue is fuel pump related or related to crankshaft or camshaft sensors as I've from other posts?

a bad fuel pump might start the car and idle like crap, but it should cut out after a short while (depending on how bad it is)...and be repeatable. also if you put your ear close to the back seat, you should hear the pump prime when the key is turned on..a bad pump could sound either extremely loud, might not make a sound, and might change tone alot as the pump runs...just depends.

generally you can test for fuel pressure from the engine side to make sure its a fuel pump problem... but it sounds like it is.. shouldnt be too expensive of a fix.

First thing is get it read for codes..
There are too much possibilities that cause this kind of issue to just jump into troubleshooting

Get yourself the wireless OBD2 reader, its like 250 on Gumtree and download OBDFusion ( cost is about 90bucks for the app ) from your Play store and read the codes

You can do Live Data readings on there too

Thanks! I've been thinking about getting an OBD reader for a while, not knowing which one to get... I'll look up that wireless one and that obdfusion software, thanks!
