Where are you located buddy? Could help you with diagnostics (no charge).
Whats the condition of your V Belt? Battery light suggest to me that it's something to do with your alternator, try starting it then decouple your battery to test if your alternator is working.

Could be the fuel pump. My car kept stalling out on me as a direct result of a faulty pump, would stall then start up a few mins later and the cycle continued till I got to my destination.

*crankshaft

crankshat has a far more dubious connotation

sensors like these are known to need replacement. have they eliminated the battery and alternator as causes?

I did a test and saw the alternator and battery seems fine the diagnostic report shows crankshaft sensor the reason i find it strange is because a friend change his at 3050000km and in only at 135000:thumbdo: lol sorry typo *crankshaft crankshat:roflol:

i cant even type after getting the quote of R3500 from the stealers my apologies, i meant im only at 135000km :thumbdo:

Electronic components are like that, one may last forever and another might fail sooner.

I replaced a cam sensor last year, bmw wanted R1200 I got a stram one from goldwagon for R365!!!

The stealers arent your only option when it comes to replacement parts.

Hi Guys

I'm new on this site, but i have a BMW E46 318i Auto 1999 with 204000km on the clock and its given me the same gear light next to "D" every time I accelerate hard :thumbdo:, only in low gears, 1st and 2nd. It then goes into limp mode, it does not change up or down when in this mode. I have to stop the car, switch it off and take the key out for a few second and when i restart the car the gear symbol is gone and the car is back to normal. This does not happen in higher gears. I took it to the 'stealers' i mean the dealer :roflol: and after making me pay a diagnostic fee they told me i have to replace the gearbox. I have NO idea where to start..... any help please.

+1 on gearbox issue

Suspect its one of your clutch packs that is failing.

Have it done now, while the gearbox can be saved, else you will be replacing it.

Well,

Unfortunatly, in this game, you get what you pay for.

Work on around R20 to 25k for the repair

I have seen some good work coming out of gearbox den in randburg, and have heard good things about Sparklight gearboxes.
