E46 318 Ci 2002 Import - Refuses to Start

Hi Guys,

New to the Forum and forgive me if I have missed previous threads regarding this topic

I own a 2002 E46 318Ci, Had the car for the past 4 years, everything has been fine until this past weekend when the car stood over the weekend and just refused to start, in honesty the car is 4500 overdue on its service and thus is due to me relocating to cape town and not trusting just sending my car to any1,

cars diagnostic test came back with nothing and now the mech its at states it needs a engine Overhaul as it has no compression,

Any advise for me please? anyone experience the same ?

from hero to engine overhaul in a weekend, would it be suggested that they perform the service first in the hope and prayer that it would seat spark plugs etc properly first?

Hmmmm,no compression = blown head gasket from what I understand. If they've done a compression test and it's failed, this is the most likely cause. But I'm no mechanic!

were there any other issues prior to this.., surely the engine cant driving today and not start tomorrow due to blown gasket or similar?

in all honesty, no prior issues, literally just parked on Friday, when I started it on sunday just wouldn't start, she swings but seems like theres no spark to actually fire up the engine,

I'm with you on this one Sash. It does sound just too odd. Stranger things have happened though...

This is total utter crap.

You could have lost compression on one, maybe 2 cylinders, that would confirm a blown head gasket, but on all 4... no ways

Go to a spares shop, go buy a can of quickstart.

physically check that there is spark, take a spark plug out, put your tongue on the plug, plug it into the coil, and have somebody start. Remember to take a youtube video.

Ok, so dont put it on your tounge, just hold it close to a bolt or something that has a decent earth, and check if there is spark. My guess is that your going to find that there is no spark, if so its crank sensor most likely.

If you can confirm spark/rule out electrical, then take the quick start, while cranking, spray some into the intake, and see if she fires, if she does fire, look at your fuel system

If no spark, ask the mech he must attach the the compression gauge to each cylinder in front of you, and measure the output of each cylinder.

If they vary and jump around between nothing on one, full on the other, and half on the rest or something then rebuild, but I highly doubt this,

It really cant have no compression over night, however as stated stranger things have happened, do what Leonard says and check from there. Make sure you post the video though (just joking)

Just through about it again

If Spark check, and fuel check

Then

BBT motor could have fiailed at such an angle, what you can do, is you can manually adjust the VVT motor, and remove power to it, just to rule out problem, but I would look at the top before the bottom.
