Hello
I am looking for advise on my problem. The aircon does not blow at all , although when it is swithed on in the cabin all the buttons and screen displays come on as if the aircon is working. But there is no air ( either hot or cold) being blown into the cabin.
I have checked thefuses and would just like a bit of advise on this, what is the possible problems ? and if this is common ?

Thank You

Yes, very common.

Its either the fan, a connector plug under the foot rest or the Final stage resistor that has died.

Are you any good at Diy stuff? its pretty simple to sort if you have half decent mech skills other wise take it to an auto electrician.

Hi Stinkywade,

The problem is your Fan/Blow Resistor Motor.... I have the same problem on my E46 318i.....

Get it checked out....

Used bits are R400 - R650 each for either part depending where you get them (to give you an idea)

Labour if you do it yourself - Zero!
Labour an Auto Electrician - Ouch!

I would consider myself on the lower end of being a half decent mech...but looking at the DIY Replacement instructions , I think it would be better to get an electrician to look at it an do the replacement for me. Thanx for the advise...I just kringe every time something goes wrong and wonder how many thousands of Rands BMW will charge for repairs. At least with this one I can get an electrician to look at it.

Have a go at it yourself! My X5's ac died last week and i immediately went for the hedgehog (i had a similar problem as yours - dead ineterior fan motor with all the lights burning) and as i had a spare hedgehog i replaced that and bingo, fan started working again. Then checked the old hedgehog that i had just removed and it worked as well. So put the new hedgehog in and it is still working. It must have been a bad connection or something to that effect. Had the same problem on my recently acquired E36 (no interior fan but all the lights burning) and after quite a lot of searching and probing and surfing on the net eventually found the problem - loose connection on plug that connects the hedgehog (that is why i have a spare hedgehog - bought a new one and thought the old one had died) but was lucky. Good luck with yours - it could be just a bad connection!!

Its most definitely the final stage resistor as I replaced on my car a year back. I had exactly the same problem.
