Hi fellow fanatics

My mom has a 2003 320i (the 2.2ltr facelift) steptronic.
She doesn't use it that often.

She tried starting it today but it wouldn't start.
She said it cranks over but doesn't start..

She put the battery charger on, Thinking it could be that but when I came home from work she said it still wasn't starting..

Any ideas what it could be?
I haven't tried it myself, there could be warning lights that could indicate the problem that she didn't notice.

Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.

If it cranks over but doesn't start it won't be the battery. Listen carefully to hear if the fuel pump is working / priming. The pump sits under the back seat but you should be able to hear it without removing the back seat base.

Hi Prevan

Aah yes the cursed petrol pump!
I think it's still the original one.
Car is on 120 000kms and an 03 model, my mom only uses it very sparingly, shops and back etc.

I just went outside now to try it, no warning lights but I did smell petrol and come to think of it, I didn't recall hearing the buzzing sound of the pump.. need to just check again to make sure.

Thanks man!

The pump can go without warning at any stage so the kms is not really any indication. On my previous E46 the car was on plus 200 000 and the original pump was still strong. My brother now has the car and pump is still going.

If the pump checks out fine, try pulling the plugs / coil packs and checking them.

Hope you get it sorted quickly
