Good day everyone, i suppose all have heard about this issue... my 320d (pre face lift) just cut out while driving from the shop back home. Eversince its just crankin but not firing up... ok so i started off by looking into fuel supply (pre pump, tank) runs good, fuel runs good into cartrage filter (unplugged feed line) which is by the way a brand new filter that i changed 200km ago. So fuel delivery is up until the (non common rail) high pressure pump (vp44 bosch). Next i checked all fuses relays DDE (ecu), fuel pump, IM etc. By the way green ones behind glovebox compartment and (skyblue) in engine compartment left hand side. I made pretty sure i checked all. Anycase now with a fully loaded battery connected to proper jumpers with my other bmw running, it cranks and cranks but nothing happens! Should'nt the camshaft positioning sensor or crankshaft sensor send a signal when the motor rotates to the high pressure pump for it to start doing its job? Cause it seems like there is no diesel into the top...? Please can someone shed some light here lol!... im getting a diagnostic tomorrow by the way, if i get results ill post again. Thanks guys. ☺

Can be crankshaft sensor. Can also be air flow meter, ignition coils. There is so many possibilities that its easier to just diagnose the car to point out the fault. Let me know what it ended up being.

We did a diagnostics friday, with the following errors, im module, glow plugs error, temp sensor instrument cluster (but that is my faulty temp sensor). Cleared the codes, battery reset and diagnostics again with only temp sensor error. Opened a feed line on injector and diesel splurting as should. Whe then tightened it back in place and cranked a few times. Well at a stage i got it running on quick start and i stopped spraying and the engin run for about 3 to 5 seconds with the accel. down but just died again. I got it running for another 3 seconds and dead again. So the car is going in to the shop today... what was strange that nothing came up about the crank sensor (which i thaught could be the culpret) so im thinking about injection timing or injectors or maybe the glow plugs ughh, lets see what comes now... im out of ideas!

I would start with Glow plugs because they're the cheapest.
Then I would suspect injectors... Maybe get them pulled and tested. Diagnostics may be able to give you a reading on the injectors, but I'm not 100% sure.

Common Failing part on the Pre-Facelift is the High pressure Diesel pump..
The facelift one does not fail as often as those. Could also be Diesel injectors.

Get the Diagnostics done first i would say. Will give better direction on where to look (((EDIT!!!! I SEE YOU DONE IT ALREADY)))

Above is My Guess
The Bulky VP44's are Very problematic unfortunately.. and Difficult to find too
