E39 ZKE module

Does anybody know where the ZKE Body module is located on the E39

My drivers window stopped working, I checked with DIS and its getting the signal from the switch module, and it is actuating the relay giving 12v output to the motor, but I cannot detect any voltage on the motor wiring.

Long story short, my window is stuck open, and its annoying as fsck... hence I need to fix this.

Now its one of two things, either I have broken the wire's from the ZKE or the relay is dirty....

So where is this module hiding.... anybody know...

My 530d did the same, the module is behind the glove box, I got a second hand module from the scrappers.

had the same problem on an E36 325I, relay also behind the glovebox, found the relay had a loose solder joint

behind the glove box (from what I can gather.)

Now can you help me find the problem with my ITS head airbag wiring?

Whoops, I see I was too late.

Awesome.... Seriously happy that I dont need to strip the whole frikken car....

Will go playing just now.

P1000, intermittened or perm fault ?

The way I understand is that there are 2 possible sets of wires where the break can be, module to slipring, slipring to bag. I have the same issue, but mine is only sometimes, so its impossible to find..

Mine is semi-permanent. It's on 99% of the time. Does the signal for the curtain airbag go through a slipring? I think my issue might be a plug that pulled out since it is saying "resistance too low" apparently some of the plugs short the connection when pulled out to avoid accidental deployment of the airbag. My problem is, I might have to remove the dash to get to it. But I will have a look tomorrow to see how much I need to remove to get to it.

erk....

No i misread.

You should be able to get to it through the glovebox ?

I am still a noob at the E39. will let you know if I can see it underneath when I go hunting for the ZKE now :)

Cool, that might help a bit, although my problem is on the driver's side... On a totally unrelated note, that e60 550i is still on the BMW website. I wonder if that car actually exists and if it is just a lure...

K...

So while there is a ZKE or body control module behind the cubby, it does not control front windows.

Really odd as it does control rear windows and a bunch of other bits, but not the front windows. Front windows are controlled by the actual switch unit in the door card, and its all integrated to the ZKE by means of a bus.

So, one main ZKE module behind cubby, and 2 door drivers, the cubby ZKE does a bunch of other stuff as well, interior lights, trunk release, bla bla bla

Found a good website on this.

Anyway, it was a dry joint, touch up, and presto, window works again, saved myself like 2k or something daft, and learnt a lot in the process.... i LOVE DIY :p

Just too lazy to fit everything back into the car, we can save that for tomorrow.

Okay, noe to hijack your thread again, I have found my problem on my ITS airbag - seems that when the wonderful BMW techies installed the new gas generator, they broke the retaining clip on the connector on the gas generator, so the plug is pulled out slightly, causing the emergency shortout of the connector. Now I do not want to disassemble half the car and pay R6k for a new airbag, so the question then is: do I just push the plug back in (after I disconnected the battery and waited at least one minute as per TIS), or do I push it in and superglue it in place (of course, this means at least a new connector in the event of another airbag deployment, possibly a new harness). Okay, the harness is cheap - $30, so probably R450 from the dealers, but I fear installation might be a very big job. I also believe that you would be able to source the plug alone, but not the sire on the gas generator... What would you do?

Pretty much :)

Where was the plug, was it the one I MMS'd you, as that could of easily been for the dash airbag as well.

I don't think so, it was the one on the back of the canister right next to the body panel... I'll try and upload and image as soon as I can find a way to connect to my cellphone

Well, perhaps we should put 12v onto that plug and see, you will know for damm sure which bag it was, not to mention bits of E39 up places the dear lord never inteded E39 bits to go :)

I actually just refitted the door airbag on the M, whole bag is seperatly detachable on three screws, was pretty kewl how it was packed and stuff... I am so tempted to implode an airbag one day....
