E39 Touring M5

@Sibonelo, @FISAACS — I’ve done similar Apple CarPlay upgrades on an E39 Touring and an E46. The key is to retain the OEM look while installing a touchscreen head unit. Using a quality double-DIN facia and properly wiring the CAN-bus keeps all dash info and trip functions working perfectly.

If you’re concerned about costs and installation, I wrote a full guide for BMW head unit upgrades in South Africa, including price tips, sourcing options, and installation steps: https://www.soundlouder.co.za/index.php?route=blog/article&article_id=11

Happy to answer questions on wiring, subwoofer integration, or sourcing the right unit locally — it’s easier than it seems once you follow a proper step-by-step approach.

Eventually I got the front suspension assembled and fitted.
Very different to just ordering parts on behalf of others.
Still need to have the new drag links fitted when they arrive.
I have to find a solution to what brake calipers and discs I shall be fitting as I am not convinced that the original M5 brake system is worth keeping.
I want it to be as economical as possible with an increase in braking performance.
Maybe a system from a 135 front and rear I shall see.

I did try last week to update however Afrihost had their issues.

I have found the brake kit for the car from an 135.
I shall leave it original colour as it will be stealth.

On to other things.
As the S62 engine parts are starting to list as NLA or DELETED I decided to strip and re do the motor.
Cylinder heads off to engineering and then bearings mains and big ends.
Although the S62 is very gentle on the mains the big ends suffer and given that the donor said 170K kms and looked like 500K kms I think it is best to do everything.

That is the best, if not only way, to do things
