e39 reverse lights switch......

My reverse lights have stopped working. They would work on and off, but now don't work at all.

I suspect the switch. Is it located on the gearbox or near the shifter under the panel? Remember mine is manual.

I found out it is on the gearbox.

It is indeed on the gearbox, you can test the switch by unplugging it, and using a continuity tester on it. If car is in reverse, you should have a closed circuit.. If you do, then its something else.
