So question, who was the workshop responsible for this kak work so we can all stay clear of it.

I seriously do not know.

The details are a little fuzzy due to my severe lack of interest. :)

Hi Peter. Im looking for some Silicon to use in my bathroom, could you maybe provide us details, of someone who could put us in touch with the right silicon company?

Clearly silicon is cheaper than acquiring the relevant skill/knowledge and definitely much cheaper than a conscience

Great, they used the worst kind of silicon too, that grey stuff is horrid to removed completely. Mechanic should be put in front of a firing squad!

How many times did he need to reload?

Should let the forum know exactly which "specialist" is responsible for this. Save everyone nightmares in future. Great save!

I'd rather attempt something like this myself than send it to a "specialist" that installs critical components backwards (and of course converting the car into a tribute to Pamela Anderson)

Support the call to name and shame the workshop since this is clearly documented and frankly there is a no possible excuse or he said/she said scenario for this kind of work.

Well done on getting her back to health! :clapper:

Car is back with its owner who happens to be a middle aged lady and who by all accounts drives it like a teenager.

A special thank you to Gert from OBDWorx who fixed the solenoid board and soldered the solenoids for me.

In closing this repair adventure I would like to share with you one of the surprises I found in the vanos units.

3 different type of pistons 2 original ones 1 from an e36 s50b32 engine and one made close to the original.

Top is from e36 middle is from the v8 and bottom manufactured which leads me to believe that something catastrophic happened whilst they were fitting the vanos seals.

I would equally wish to thank Vijen for his very calm and stoic approach to the hassles we uncovered and through all the troubles not once did he bad mouth the experts who vandalised the car. (He once did let slip the word "cake" in describing one of the master techs looking at the above pic I would have described him in a far saucier manner) He is a thorough gentleman.
