E39 M5 or E36 M3

Watch it osiris, I drive an E39 M5. LOL. Seriously, must agree with the past few posts. You must drive what makes you happy. I know the E36 M3 is a fantastic car, but I have never owned one, so my opinion cannot be truly fair. I am on to my second E39 M5, for the pure reason that this car puts a smile on my face every single time I drive it, unlike my previous E60 530iA. It was a lovely car, but just not for me. As proof to what I mean, I also have a seriously stuffed 1975 520A that will never be worth restoring. It sits at my work, and occasionaly I use it to deliver something to a client or go to a meeting. It is utter crap to drive, but I love it. I can go through bends at 40km/h with the tyres protesting, take on taxis, have even had a young girl call it cute once. It's only downside is the cops love pulling me over to check if it's roadworthy. You know, easy target and all that. Incidently, it is licenced and roadworthy. So yes, drive whatever puts a smile on your face. :=):

I can relate.
Sold a near-as-makes-no-difference perfect e46 M3 to buy an e34 M5 which is 11 years older, thirstier, less nimble, slower, bigger, but that is what makes me happy. Call me crazy, but that is what i wanted.

PS - The fact that I see the M3 frequently gives me seller's remorse, but when I drive the old Bismarck everything else fades into a distant memory [almost]

I kno exactly wot u mean Fordkoppie.

The way I see it, everybody knows that an E46 M for eg is an awesome car, but not all, but a true enthusiast will love the old E34/E28 M cars.

It that acknowledgement from a 'true believer' that justifies the rest of the world's preceived downgrade.

When I sold my 4dr M to get an iS, everybody said I was mad, until they drove with me in the old E30 & realised how much respect one gets from driving these old things.

So M3 or M5???...I say follow your heart & deal with the regret IF it ever comes (but it probably wont)
