I always think about Sidewayz comment..... "theres something in an E36 that makes you wana drive/own them again"

I'm an e36 fan but I would keep the m5, as something might be wrong with the m3 as the guy you sold to wanna sell it, the m5 is the beast on the road, I love the M cars, this is my opinion, M5 A+++ and it's value :inlove:

Thanks very much for the comments and suggestions gents! Really appreciate it! Gonna go check the M3 out tomorrow evening hopefully, just to see that all is well, take it for a drive and then decide from there, it's really gonna have to pull on my heart strings in a big way to lure me away from the M5! Will let you gents know what happens! Oh how I wish I could just buy the M3 and keep both!! Gonna pitch the M3 to my old man as a long term investment!! Haha!

an M5 is an awsome machine, but an extreamly neat low mileage 2 door E36 M3 is something special.

E36 2 door M3 Pros:
1: Smaller car
2: 2 doors
3: much lighter on petrol
4: Much lighter car
5: more sporty looking because its a coupe
6:Holds Value very well

E36 2 door M3 Cons:
1: Older technology
2: No Glass Sunroof
3: No Sat nav
4: No Multifunction Steering wheel

M5 Pros:
1: V8 Power and V8 Sound
2: Much Newer technology
3: Family car if your into that sort of thing
5: More of a daily driver and more comfortable
6: Bigger boot lol
7: Sat Nav

Cons in my opinion are:
1: Much Bigger and heavier car...
2: 4 Doors on a sports car??
3: Uses a hell of a lot of petrol
4: Doesn't hold value as well as the 2 door E36 M3
5: When something goes wrong you need to sell organs to fix!

Basically its all down to user preference in the end :)

I actually prefer the "old " technology, less to go wrong and no christmas lights to visit the mechie all the time, the e36 will always remain a true //M car as it was the 1st true //M in sa, I still drool over a clean german spec, those seats are brutally styled, The car is true and hard, very nice track car also, it doesnt matter if todays gtis pass you, its the legend! You havent owned a car till you have a 2door!

@ Legacy and Herr - the guys selling it because he basically doesn't have space for it anymore, just bought a new S3 and has some other beasts as well, know he had an E92 M3, think he's still got it!

G-

thats a tough decision, but you should be use to selling cars by now :)

Atleast you know the current owner well, and we all know how well he looks after his cars.

I think that E36 could possibly be in a better state now than before.

But its ur call Bud

(buy the E36 and i'll buy it from you next year when you sell it :) )

B- whats up bud? Think I've got you confused a little bit, talking about my Avus Blue one and not my Silver G.Spec- Don laughed at me when I asked him to sell that one back to me! The Avus one was also super clean so much of a muchness between the two.

G, we have so much in common

I also owned a black e36 m3 ,

u gotta decide which horse for which coarse.

if you gonna wanna do more track time, then the e36 will be the better bet.

more open roads and power stuff, then the m5.

Both are gonna be heavy on juice ( the way we drive)

i think back on my m3, and realise the M5 is just far more menacing and powerful on the road, and at the flick of a switch, smoother and a better cruizer when u want it to be. more comfortable and spacios too.

if you wanna mod them, the price difference will be minimal,

and i cant help thinking how my m5 will pull, after i supercharge it ( watch this space:blab:)

i'd keep the M5:thumbs:

A true enthusiast will drive the car his heart desires, there are posts here comparing the practicality of both cars which is crazy, ///M and practicality come on?

I just sold all my newer bigger better faster cars for an older one and I do not regret it one tiny little bit. More power, bulk and technology do not always return the most fun.

In our quest for the latest high tech stuff we really did forget some of the basics.

Drive the one that puts the bigger smile on your face...it's simple.

dam- i thought it was your other old M3, Don's silver one.

i think if it was the silver one it would be a no brainer.

the avus blue was clean, but it is still a tough choice cause your M5 is a beaut.
but if you miss the M3 so much you can come take mine.
it gets dusty :)

Rubbish - The e28 M5 was. And the e34 M5 was also ahead in production of the e36

100% correct, but all performance cars are always compared to the //M3, it is and always will be the benchmark of bratpacks and hot hatches!

I agree:thumbs: I have an old merc c230komp amg and my wife refers to it as the dinosoar, but it makes me content after a drive and is the best car I've owned to date, was my dream car in high school!

I must admit I agree with rick 540....I have had this discussion with my dad many many many times, he gets upset with me because I keep buying these old cars.

Most of the population are under the belife that you have to drive the latest bmw else you will be frowned upon by the rest of the world, and they are driven by the Mr jones theory of you always have to have better and newer than the guy next door, its complete rubbish. I am on my 6th Bmw now and for some reason I keep going back to the E36 shape, I love the shape especially the 2 door coupe, I just love the lines of the car and the back of the coupe is a work of art! its an all round beautiful car!

Newer BMW's are nice but I have always belived that you should buy the car that looks the best to you, and if that means its a car from the 80's that appeals to you then get it! I have wanted an E36 Gspec M3 my whole life!! I finally got one, I sold a 2002 BMW with very low mileage for a M3 from 1994 that I had to put allot of money into to get it to where I want it, my dad wants to kill me but im sorry I love the look of the car, the sound of the car and I love AVUS blue, so I am prepaired to put as much money and time and effort into the car as it takes! I don't care about resale value, I want the car for myself.

Like Rick said, get the car that makes you smile the most, its not all about power, you can make any car fast! but wouldn't you prefer to make a car fast that you love the look of the most? and besides....an M car should have 2 doors lol :fencelook:
