E39 M5 lover

Hey Guys,

Just joined the forum. The subject pretty much sums up my reason. I have developed a huge love for the E39 M5. Not exactly sure why as I have always been a Ford fan. Maybe its because I just love a dynamic drivers car and have a passion for the road that is hard to explain. I can picture an E39 M5 giving me everything I could ever want from driving.

Only problem is, I don't yet have one! I'm working on it. But when I get it I look forward to sharing it with you and it is great to know that there is a lot of experience here. Looks like you have a really great community going here.

Thanks guys! I have been looking for a while and have already came across a few. Just don't have that type of cash and I've only just become a new father so its all about priorities right now :)

Oh and Merry Christmas! :)

The e39 M5 is a good choice, pretty much as close as you can get to having a comfy cruiser and supercar all wrapped into one absolutely gorgeous package, oh and it has wonderful sounding V8.

E39 M's go from 80k for rubbish, 130k for a nice car, all the way to 300 for the super insane.

I drive mine every single day at least 70km, with some days clocking up 130 to 200k a day, driving hard, and never wondering about reliability

Sure mine needs a bit of work, and when i get stuck in, it may be somewhat expensive, but you know what......

Thats Polo kind of money nowadays, yet the E39 does not make you want to do hair......

No offense to our budding hair guys of course :praise:

Lol.. As far as I'm concerned something is only expensive if it is not worth it. And having never driven or owned one, I believe the M5 to be worth every cent!

And u right about the prices. Seen a few shiit ones for 100k and a few nice ones for R150-R200k and then a truly sublime model with only 70 000km on clock for R280 000.. That's the price of new gold gti territory.. And I hate FWD!

I will have one. One day. A sublime one..

I know the market is a bit down now, but if you look hard enough, you can still get a very good price for a newborn baby. Try the USA and Europe.

I had a stunning charcoal grey one for about 18 mths. Fixed up all the nitty gritty and had almost the whole car resprayed to get it as close to perfect as one possibly couldn by an expert panelbeater in Pietersburg. I still had an E39 530i in excellent nic at the time. Plan was to sell the latter after I got the M5. My wife liked the M5 a lot, but asked me to keep the 530i. We agreed the softer ride and auto 'box was just great for city traffic easpecially when I have to travel to PTa for court cases(lawyer).

The traffic there is so frustrating, it will cause the clutch of the M5 to cook on the 3rd trip!

The noisy vanos of the M5 was also irritating and I eventually sold it. It was the best car ever for going sideways for as long as I liked whenever I felt like it!! The torque was just intoxicating. Really a stunning car. The suspension bushes needed replacement. Its a heavy car and one has to look at the proper maintenance of the suspension components.

I will definately get another one in future! Hope you find the right car soon.

Welcome to the forums StangV2.0!

I've had my M5 for around 3 months now, and not a single hassle so far. These cars are nothing more than amazing, they can't be classed or compared against anything else.

I can take the M5 for a track day with the Sports mode on and DSC off - complete hooligan, and go straight from the track, pick up my parents and take a slow, comfortable drive to dinner.

Good luck hunting for one, I looked for ages - they're quite hard to find. Just make sure you take her for a proper test drive before making a final decision :=):
