E39 Homelink Garage Door opener

Hi

Has anyone had any experience with these? I purchased one on e-bay, think my E39 M5 was prewired for the retrofitting of this module, only to see that it is not.

Seems I could splice into some existing wires for the light switches to get it to work, but now it also seems that they run on a different frequency than what we may use in SA so could be a total waste of time?

Was really looking forward to opening my gates and garage doors with this!!

Thanks, I checked the uk forums with rhd cars, and there was consensus that the euro cars were not prewired, as the home link system was US based and ran on 300 to 400 MHz vs 800 in uk.

I ordered mine last yr and received it couple of weeks ago.. Wen I popped that plastic by the sunroof switches, I was pretty sure the plug was there. I looked for it high and low and sure wasn't lucky.. Decided to wire it up and burnt it.. It did light up thou. Think I switched wires..

I was researching this exact topic this past weekend. I think most of our garage doors and gates in SA run on 433 frequency. From what I read this would require a V6 Homelink, as it has the required bands. I decided not to bother becuase (a) getting a mirror with homelink integrated off eBay would be a hit and miss affair and (b) it might not work at all. I think there is reason why this option is not offered by BMW SA.
