Hi Guys,

I have been a member for a while but never posted anything. Bought a e39 540 last year without engine and gearbox and I am now busy installing a Toyota engine. Will start new thread in forced induction section soon. Purist should avoid the thread :biglol:

I am going to use the 2rz. Its a 2.4 8 valve, 95 bore with 86 stroke. The intake valve is 46 mm. The aim is lots of torque in the midrange, that e39 body is heavy as hell, haha! The motor has a cast iron block with forged rods and crank from factory. Rod bolts are a weak point but I have made Arp 3sgte rod bolts fit. Just for interest sake, the 2.7 bakkie engine have a 16v head that's a direct fit on this block.

I'm no expert by any means, but I feel like this engine will under-perform with having to pull such a big, heavy chassis around.

No engine , no gearbox , At least his saving the car .. Just out of interest , Would it not be cheaper , simpler and more cost effective to use another BMW engine? I don't know much what it costs to do these conversions n such .
Are there any benefits for using this new engine?

Given the choice of motor I can't help but think this is a build of convenience rather than a planned build. We have all seen the decent toyota engines put into bmws before like 1/2jz, 1uz, 3sgte ect. Fitting such an agricultural engine from a toyota hi-ace taxi gives me the idea it was just lying around taking up space...

Yes, the new Supra will have a Bmw engine. The new Merc bakkie is built on a Nissan chassis and the current Nissan bakkies have Renault parts and Ford used Volvo engines and the list goes on..

I bought the e39 chassis for R22 000. The auto gearbox broke and the previous owner sold the engine. The body is well looked after I love a challenge. The 1jz/2jz has been done to death in a bmw.
The RZ engine is very capable when you add a turbo. I think the current 4 cylinder record in SA is held by Ian Repsold in a RZ engine. Google Paradise Racing, they did under 7 sec on the 1/4 mile with a 2rz at 320 km/h.

I am just building a daily with a different engine, that's it!
