e39 climate control problem

Hi all. New to the site so please bear with me if I ask stupid questions.
I have a 2001 525i and only hot air comes out of the window demister, the footwell vents and the rear seat vents. The front vents will blow nice cold aircon air. Any ideas? Is it the control module or something?

Welcome to the forum. Seems to be a common problem. Mine only blows hot out the demister, front passenger footwell and rear passenger footwells.

the climate control has a sensor inside it, it sits just behind that type of "grill" that you see by that climate control, theres also a little fan that "sucks" cabin air into the unit and over the sensor, sensor will be dirty
if the climate control which is processor controlled cant determine interior climatic conditions, it will not open and or close needed flaps etc and mix air properly.

also, final stage resistor needs to be in perfect condition.

believe it or not, the condition of the coolant is also a factor, what i find it particularly good "Service" for the e39 climat control system is to ever so now and then, run the car both zones on 32deg and from time to time cycle the temps.

oh cabin filters need to be in tiptop form too as it draws in cold air for the mix there aswell.

Does anyone know of a place that can repair the ABS control unit for my 525i. Or does anyone have one that they would like to sell? I have the normal 3 light problem and I did fit one from a friends car and the lights turned off, so it is definitely the problem.

Re the final stage resistor, I watched this video:

It also shows how to replace the blower fans, which on mine tend to make a whining noise.

It's a big job. Entire dash has to come out
