E39 body door rubber

I bought a new one and attempted to change it yesterday. This is the rubber that runs around the door frame on the body. All E39s suffer from this being worn from getting in and out.

So I fitted it and to my horror, discovered it was about 10cm shorter than the old one. I first suspected that I installed it wrong but then measured it against the old one and sure enough it is shorter!

Back to Auto Atlantic we go! Why would BMW do this and what is to say that the new one won't be too short too?

I suppose I could cut out a section of the old rubber to fill in the gap, but it is not strictly correct!

What did you pay? Apparently (according to Uber), the ones for the E60 is cheaper (especially from bemows), which is why he installed them in his e34...

Need some details on this one as well, my E39 is also in need.

Spoils the drive as you get that frikken door rattle noise.

I'm guessing the E60 ones are longer, so you just cut them to size. But lets get Uber to respond on this one...

The inside panels rattle and creak after passengers lean too hard on them. They are made for an arm and not a body

The fix is to remove them and add a drop of superglue where all the plastic (heat melt rivets) that hold all the stuff on come through the door panel. Works like a charm.

BMW sell somthing called Gumiphlege which you can treat the door rubbers with. makes them last and not creak

The E60 ones are way more abundant. They fit without a problem too.

From the scrapyard they were fairly cheap. Have not asked BMW what they charge though.
On top of this, they needed to be trimmed slightly to fit the E34.

I got the correct rubber yesterday. Not the easiest job in the world to install it. If you don't get the rubber seated properly especially in the corners, you will end up with too much rubber and the 2 ends won't fit in snugly. DO NOT CUT IT - IT IS THE CORRECT SIZE. It took me 3 attempts, but got it in the end. I ended up tapping it in place with a rubber mallet all the way around and that did the trick.
