Some might remember my previous posts mentioning that I need to rebuild the M62B44 non-vanos unit that is in my early '98 E39 540i.
Well, the unit has been removed and pulled apart. One of the barrels is completely stuffed. :bangdesk: :argh: Also broke a valve guide, got piston slap, hit a bearing .... :argh:
Apparently, nobody in the country can repair these "Alusil" liners.
And hereto my questions:
1. Can these blocks be repaired, and by whom at what cost?
2. Where can I get a decent donor aluminium/alusil block, and at what cost?
3. Where can I get a decent donor motor, and at what cost?
And lastly - I have a lead on a "complete power unit", but speaking to the fella on the phone, I'm not 100% convinced he knows exactly what he is selling. How can I easily identify the difference between a M62B44 and a M60B40? I think he might have the latter instead.
As usual, any and all comments and help is greatly appreciated.
