Hi Guys,

The clutch on the 540i is starting to ride and the stealers are trying to sell me the replacement Dual Mass Flywheel and Clutch kit for the price of another small car, If there is anyone out there who know where I can get the Dual Mass Flywheel and clutch kit for a decent price...

Thanks

Contact Ferrobrake in Germiston.

I had a similar situation with the M5 and these guys managed to reline my clutch, and skim everything for like R2500.

No it's not OEM but perfectly acceptable as an alternative that doesnt rip you off.

Clutchworx also quoted in the region of R2K to recon the clutch and pressure plate, I am happy to do that as they will retension the pressure plate to suit my harder driving style, but it is the Flywheel that I am worried about, most of the experts say that the Dual Mass Flywheel must not be skimmed or reconditioned as it will inevitably have to be replaced, Stealers want R 16.5K for a new one after 10% discount

Although not the same model, I bought the clutch for my E34 6 speed from the states for about R5500. Maybe try and get the flywheel from the states??

I got my clutch from ECSTuning. Google them.

Cool, thanks Nic_s,

Just got the price for the Clutch kit from the stealers, not bad at R 5038 for the Pressure Plate, Clutch Plate and Release Bearing,

You need a new one "if" the old one is buggered. I know it's not an ideal situation and a 'fix" but if the old clutch is not juddering, and money is tight, just clean the DMF up with some 80 grit sandpaper and refit.

If the clutch has not been burned the odds are 95% this can work, the alternative is R16.5K for something that is probably still ok.

Skimming is the right way to do it, but that does not mean if you dont skim its the end of the world, it's not.

Get a quote from Autohaus AZ in the USA for a new DMF if you want to, they are pretty good.

Thanks Rick, the clutch just started slipping and not too bad, only on hard acceleration, I have stopped driving it for fear of causing more damage, there is no shuddering/juddering car is still 100% drive-able,

They wanted almost R9k for my clutch kit which is why I got it in from the states. It was R5500 with shipping.

I read somewhere that the 330d clutch can be used, you might want to research that.

I also think the OEM one is made by LUK.
