E39 540i M6 - Complete Motor Rebuild

The time has come to give "The Beast" a new lease on life and do a complete motor-out rebuild.
I have done a few motors in my time, including my previous E34 535i, which I must say was the ultimate thrill to do. However, I'm sure this will be a new challenge.
Any Fanatics out there already done a rebuild on an M62B44 ?? Anybody care to offer advice? What special tools are required, precautions taken, etc, etc. Any and all help will be appreciated.
I do intend to do a full photo coverage of the rebuild, and include all costs associated with it, which I will post here afterwards.

Let the fun begin :joy:

Cam tools and anti clock wise torque wrench mandatory.

Good Luck

Well for a start, buy lots of plasters and go get two liters of extra blood. The edges of just about everything on this motor are SHARP!

It's actually an easy motor to rebuild and one can get around just about all the special tools required with other tricks. the biggest risk is stripping threads in all the aluminium bits so stick to the torque settings and you will be fine.

Feel free to PM me as you go along as I have been there several times with sucessful rebuilds on M60/62 motors
