E39 540i M6 - Brake Question

So I have poured over all the threads on rotors and pads for the E39, seen all the problems, concerns, and comments, and also seen all the recommendations on makes, etc.

I have a simple question for the Fanatics out there. I am planning some maintenance on "The Beast", and intend replacing discs front and rear, as well as pads, shoes and sensors. (I have just bought new OEM "Traction Strut" rubber mountings, and Wishbones from BMW).

My question is simple - do you recommend I buy the OEM discs, pad, shoes and sensors from BMW for my '98 540, or go aftermarket? If aftermarket, what is the best recommended make (and supplier) for this lot? (I am in PE).

As always, much obliged for all comments and recommendations.

Meyle make a decent set of brake components at less than agent pricing.

So depending on availability I would be inclined to look at agents and Meyle.
Give "moranor" a shout on the Meyle parts

Post a nice thread with lots of pics of the beast please :=):

This is from when I bought her ... since replaced the motor (complete) from a wreck that had 159k on the clock, as mine broke a valve guide and did some ugly things to the insides ... which was not worth repairing (had 360k on the clock). My car build is 04/98, and the donor motor was 02/98, ex automatic, with only 159k. Flywheel was retained (still perfect), but put in a new clutch ex Moranor @ Axis Engineering.

With the free-flow (de-catted) system, this baby sounds awesome :cartel:

Going to be doing front suspension, brakes, etc, soon ... and need to have the rims redone before fitting the new rubbers, 255-40 rear and 235-45 up front.

When the time comes, and when I can find a decent one, I'll swap her out for my last ride - M5.

In terms of discs OEM is probably your best option, especially for the rears, I have found all manner of aftermarket discs that are supposedly intended to fit 540i's but not all do, particularly the rears.

Pads you can pretty much go for anything, and by anything I am even including ferodo pads.

I would recommend checking with powerbrake for front discs as well, not sure if they have a different disc for the e39, but if they do they might still stock the discs.

Nice E39, who does your servicing in PE? Also, the free flow, did you have that done in PE - if so who did it? Have you tried Brake Centre? I have used them on other vehicles in the past and they can normally fit OEM parts if you insist, at a reduced price.

Thanks. I mostly use Continental Cars, or Auto Classique in Westering. I bought it with the "sound system" :=): already fitted. Thanks for the up on Brake Centre.
