Hey guys.

I'm really not sure what I'm going to do. I'm rather pissed that my Audi got a fender bender, and I'm sure it's not a good reason to sell, but I'm considering fixing it and either getting a big ass bakkie or 540i, if I decide to sell.

Whats the chances of getting a manual 540i or a decent steptronic with lowish mileage (+-100k on the clock)? What do they go for +-?

I'm pretty familiar with most common issues on BMW's by this time, but what is specifically an issue on the E39's and what does is cost to fix/replace?

Looking forward to your info.

Manual 6 Spd like hens teeth, very hard to find, the steptronic in these cars is nice, not lazy at all

If you get one with under 150K on the clock you should not have any issues...

540's are pretty solid cars and mechanical bits are well sorted, only the radiators give hassles (top pipe braks off) but not expensive to fix. Later ones have a water cooled alternator that can be a headache, but that's it, no other issues

Mine's on 246000Km and still drives like it's new, uses zero oil and 11.9L/100Km

Thanks Rick, appreciate the info.

What would you be willing to pay for 2000-2002/3 540i with +-100k on the clock?

You can pick up an ultra clean one for R110K Anything more than that is not worth it.

On these cars it would be hard to find any with less than 120K Km, but that's fine as I'm starting to see good ones with very high mileages which is a good sign of longevity.

Get a 2002 for a hundred grand and add a VF engineering supercharger kit for 50K and you have something faster than an E39 M5 for 150K
