If you find out what this is please post it here. My dads E39 523 does exactly the same thing also from the left front. We have been unable to find out what it is, Every time we try and figure is out it stops.

It actually sounds more like the energizer bunny......rather than a squirrel whacking off under the wheel arch.

I will do that, the car drives like a new car except for the annoying sound on take off. The gearbox is still under warranty and ZF Transmissions are standing by their work, so should BMW Hatfield not find anything or also diagnose the tranny....then I will send it back to ZF to have it checked up!

Update @ 3.30pm : Hatfield Leo Haese also can not find anything wrong with the car.

Only thing that they found was power steering fluid low - topped up.

They did all the tests and ran diagnostics, no errors!!!!!!!!!!! :argh:

As for the gearbox, they said its fine, the technician said that Menlyn must have been out of their minds saying that its the gearbox, from a sound like this.

So.....after hearing one dealer bad-mouthing another dealer, I am out of ideas and irritated as hell :bangdesk:

UPDATE : So after lots of checking and inspection I just drove the car as it is. On Friday 2/12, on my way to work I got a heavy vibration from teh rear of the car and it eventually got so bad that I had to stop the car, got it towed to the mechanic. At first I thought it was the prop coupling, but after a few hours of careful deconstruction, it was found that the centre bearing was f%$ked. It seems like that was the initial cause of the sound under the car on take off. New part from BMW Centurion R1300.

I really hope this is the end of the sound dilemma. The rental Picanto is getting a beating of its life at the moment.

Car is back and running and feels like a V8 should.

Common causes for vibrations under the car and weird clunking noises from the middle to front end could be the flex disc or the centre bearing on the prop shaft. Labour is quite intense as the exhaust and prop shaft has to come down. The end result is worth it.

Thanks for the Heads up.

My dads car has actually stopped making the sound. I dont know if its only temporary or if its gone for good but if it comes back at least we will know where to look.
