Gents, what are you guys getting on mixed cycle in your 530d's??

Mine is at 11.4L/100kms which i think is high? 30% stop start 70% highway.

Also I am having an issie. If I have the car cruising at 120 at about 2000rpm and I put my foot flat it is dead, wont go any faster. However if I accelerate from a standing start the car pulls right through 120km/h comfortably? What gives??

11.4 sounds rather high - i get 10.4 on my 330i with a 70 town / 30 highway split.

My dad owns an e39 530d and his averages 8.2, with I guess an 80/20 highway/urban split.

Definitely using way more fuel than it should!

Ok thanks for the feedback, what's the deal then? Something wrong with it? Seems worryingly high. Drives fine thou?

Yeah, that is wrong. Does the car get to operating temperature? How far is the average trip?

My daily trip is 34kms- bout 5 in town and the balance on the freeway. Have been doing 120 on cruise control on the highway.

Stays at a quarter heat for about 10 mins and then stands happily on half.

If you floor the car at 120km/h and nothing happens, it does NOT drive fine. That car should accelerate quite nicely from 120km/h, even in top gear.

I see your point. What I mean is that is only in that circumstance that it feels like there is zero there!

my E39 530d 95% town driving, 15-30km's per day average

approx 9.8l/100km

and if I get to 120kmh and floor the accelerator, instantaneous kick-down and a woosh of acceleration

Check the vacuum lines for leaks. The vacuum pipes do not last a lifetime and often they leak. On my E39 530d auto with 230k km on the clock it goes like a train and even in top at 120 it will accelerate instantly when pressing on the loud pedal. Could even be a boost leak but my money is on a vacuum leak to the actuator that is mounted on the turbo. My 2c. Hope you find the problem and let us know if you do!

I've been thinking a bit. It might be the particle filter. It would be a good idea to do a "de-cat". But reading the codes first should be the best plan.

I'd poke a guess that the car has been clocked.

It depends completely on driving style. It is self-regenerating, but only if certain very specific conditions are met often enough. If it clogs up beyond a certain point it cannot regenerate anymore, and will get blocked. So if the previous owners drove short distances mostly, it is entirely possible to be blocked. That is, if you believe the ODO.

P1000- the car has a service history at BMW that I followed up with BMW themselves that verifies the mileage so I am at least partially sure of that.

Maybe Cois can investigate the cars reg?
