I challenged the infamous E36 window issue and won.
(Please note: this is not a step by step DIY, these are not pictures of my process, and my hands were to full of grease to take pictures, this is just me sharing my experience.)
My window started last week only going up in increments, the automatic “up†was not working, only the down.
After hours on “Google†the info was not conclusive and very open ended.
I didn’t want to buy a new motor until I tried to fix it myself, as I am good with my hands.
I removed the door panel and removed the regulator; I had to drill one rivet out in order to get the regulator off. I replaced the rivet with a new screw and washer.
I stripped the motor, and found the magnet “sensor†had slight play on it. I used industrial strength glue and got it tight. I cleaned out every part and re-greased it.
Before fitting the old regulator back I changed the clips, I was happy to find that the clips were R10- from BERAS, a local spare shop.
Made sure everything lined up, cleaned and re-greased the rails, tightened everything 100%.
Closed the door turned the key to position 2, closed the window to the top, then pressed up again and held it for 15 sec, there by setting the top limit again, and BINGO, everything is working 100%.
It actually works better than it did when I first bought it a few years ago.
So in short, my motor was fine, the magnet had play and my rails needed cleaning, and the clips were cheap enough to replace.
I beat the E36 window problem...
