Good Day Fanatics I trust that you all are well.
I would appreciate some advise from you guys before making any drastic decisions. So my steering wheel went all tight then I thought oh maybe I just ran out of fluid hence the car is a smashed rebuild.
So then I went ahead and changed the power steering pump, (OEM came from a mates car we strip for parts), replace fluid and steering is fine for couple of hours or so. Then steering goes hard again so I decided to go under the car to check out the power steering to find that its wet from the pipe going into the power steering so I remove the pipe and saw that it was torn.
Smile on my face thinking I found the problem. Went to BMW Northcliff, ordered the part (poor service received) picked it up two days later. so I replaced the pipe and new fluid thinking the problem is sorted. so I took a walk to workshop around the corner from my house (BMW Workshop next to the Bosch Service Centre in Ridgeway JHB south) then a mechanic there told me my steering rack is done and dusted.
Long story short, that left a very disappointed chap stranded at home sitting in a gown in front of the TV on a Sunday morning while the rest of the fanatics are having a ball at The Glen (not to mention its a 10 minute drive from my place)
Can anyone advise me on what could be the problem, is it just the seals or do I have to replace the whole rack???
