E36 M3 turbo rebuild

So yesterday I opened the ECU compartment for the first time and saw the gotech ecu install, there is a fuel filter inline to the map sensor, why I don't know. I also opened the engine wiring harness casing and they had shoved 2 relays in there and did a terrible wiring job to the point where the earth wire to the igniter box got really hot and started smoking after opening the casing!
I hope the igniter box and ecu are still ok but I won't know until I rebuild the engine wiring harness that could have caught fire...:nonono:

They did solder most joints, poorly with sharp edges sticking through the cheap insulation tape! One or two just twisted together, cheap insulation tape falling off joins everywhere! Im dumbfounded how this car lasted so long without catching fire!

What a disaster man! It sounds very much like the M3 I bought last year. Good thing you opened the ECU casing to find all these mess ups, would be a proper stuff up if you built the whole car this brilliantly to start it up and it sets itself on fire!

Mmmmm it is at this point where I would have put down all tools and told the dude to come fetch his car and take it to an auto electrician because That there is a bloody mess of note! :thumbdo:

My hat goes off to you for taking on a job like that, Wiring properly is a very very time consuming job and takes a hell of allot of patience and it's usually the kind of job you need to do in one go else you come back and have to re-trace all the wires again to see whats going on!

Insanity. And to think this was built originally by a 'reputable' mechy
