E36 M3 POWER OUTPUTS

While were discussing the differences between the coupes and 4 doors, does anyone know if there was a power difference between the '94-'96 models the the '98-onwards models?

I know the coupe had a 3.0l 5 speed box and the 4 doors had the 3.2l 6 speed with different ratios to the 5 speed.

Wondering if there was much of a power difference for the models we got here in SA?

In the 4 Dr the SA spec was 228kw and German spec was 236kw IIRC:cartel:

Yep the 2dr was 210kw. Not sure what the SA spec and German spec power was...

While I know what you mean, this statement is confusing.

ALL 3.0 coupe M3s were 210kw. German spec, SA spec, lightweight etc etc.

The South African 4dr 3.2 M3 had 228kw while European 3.2s had 236kw because of low compression engines in the Gulf regions

i would love to burn the terms "SA Spec" and "German spec"

The Z3 Mcoupe which had the same motor as the 4dr M had 236kw didn't it?

S50b30's are 210kw. S50b32 RSA Version is 228kw with lower compression engine, the Euro version has 236kw.

Yes it did

No it also had 228kw.

The M Coupe AC Scnitzer with the S54 was detuned slightly from the E46 power output to 236kw or thereabouts if I remember correctly.

Seeing that it was originally a for sale ad that got derailed, I have split the discussion and moved thread to ///M Fanatics forum.

Thanks for that clarity Gareth :coolShake:

My memory fails me... Was sure that book I had said 236kw... And then the mcoupe schnitzer had like 239kw or slightly higher kw

But this is a long time ago and I can't remember

There's no such thing as a German Spec. Those seats were an option IIRC.

AFAIK, the power outputs for the E36's were as follows:

2 door M3 - 3.0L 210kw
4 door M3 - 3.2L 228kw
4 door M3 - 3.2L 236kw (these were the last versions of the 4-door and they shared their engines with the M-Coupe's at the time)

Kush, Vader seats where not optional. they came in the 95 and 96 model M3's, just like how some of the late 96's have rear window switches for the pop outs, some subtle changes where made late into production. 236kw is what the euro S50B32's made, SA motors where the same but fitted with lower compression Pistons to accommodate for our lower octane fuels, thats how we got 228kw (as mentioned by Fordkoppie)...

Shame the US M3's didn't even have throttles.
