e36 M3 on gumtree

Just sold my e46 330i :bawling: no real reason just felt like change.. but as the saying goes, you don't know what you've got till it's gone!! Feel like I've learned this the hard way. :banghead:

Anyway, so now I'm trawling the web and I'm shifting back and forwards among another e46 330i (manual 6 speed vs the auto I had) and the e36 M3 is really an appealing option, and is getting more and more so!

Found this one on gumtree -

http://johannesburg.gumtree.co.za/c...kes-Parts-cars-R35K-BMW-M3-W0QQAdIdZ270909990

Would love to know if anyone knows anything about it, it seems to be a repost. Mileage is great. Not sure where to go on price. It seems to have FSH etc (havent checked it out yet). And the colour, is that a respray or is it original?

Any advice would be helpful. I guess ultimately would look at mileage up to 200K depending on condition (I want FSH, stock standard, good condition).

What's a decent price say at 100kkm / 150kkm / 200kkm meeting the above requirements?

Cheers

Dave

You can have an e39 M5 for that price!

Just keep in mind that the M-cars are high performance cars, and at that age will need some expensive TLC. For that reason, unless you have a bucket of cash or a very mechanical inclination, I would suggest a 330i manual as a daily driver.

Hi Dave, welcome to the forum, it seems like a good buy the car looks in good condition the colour is original. Get the vin no and check it out.

I would think that if mileage is genuine, FSH is full with BMW then R140K is not a bad starting point considering the amount of car one is getting!

Definitely though it is a heart buy, not a head buy

colour is original and very rare! Plus that milleage is very low and car looks neat. I have seen worse cars for higher prices.

Trust me driving a 330i and and e36 M3 3.2, are too different ball games!

R120k to R130k might be a good offer if all checks out, i.e milleage and service history. Not a bargain but a good offer.

Old ///M cars as to use as a daily driver is probably not your best option- obviously it depends on what mileage you do, what roads you travel and how big your wallet is if something goes wrong.

Definitely do your homework- never take anything for granted- check the web, go down to your local BMW agent and ask them to bring up the records on it.

P1000 - I let her go for R120km.... 2003 alpine white, sportspack, sunroof, HK sound, wood trim, 113kkm on the clock. She was a beaut, big plus was that I also knew her previous owner who is a BMW nut and care freak (as I am!). She'll be missed!

I've asked for the VIN, will definitely do a thorough check with the BMW agent (seeing as its been serviced with them since new according to the add). Anything else I can check with the VIN?

My other car is a 1998 Nissan Patrol 4.2 diesel, so between the 2 of them i wont be adding much to the mileage. The other car also affords me the luxury of not rushing into a purchase.

If that car is as genuine as it looks then go for it :thumb: price is negotiable so you can squeeze him for a better price

You missed one that was sold a few days ago. it was a 96 model, 105 000km on the clock. 2 door and was going for half that price as the owner was leaving for the U.K or something to that effect.

There was also another for the same price as the one you posted, but this was a Daytona violet 4 door, 98 model with 78 000km on the clock. Also sold last week.

You for real? I would have got that just to keep as a spare.

Im for real. Perhaps we should have an official gumtree gems thread so that we are all aware of gems that pop up every now and then. I also couldnt believe my eyes when I saw those cars...

Service history with BMW throughout motorplan to 2004 which is good.

Without seeing the book (cant see the car until the weekend), is there any way to get a good assessment of the mechanical condition of the car? Is it the norm to take a car to a dealer on a saturday morning for a quick inspection / diagnostics test? (If this is at all quick as i wouldnt know!?)

Best time to buy is right after you've driven it or else the feet get cold when time and rationale/conservative thinking sets in... :)

Car was bought Jan 1998, first service 15,000km but only in Jan 2011... is that good or bad (i always thought a service was a function of both mileage and time)

After that service yearly, no major gaps.

seems to have battery, alternator and globes replaced twice.

Also rear window rubber deformed done twice with front door adjustments - all at minor costs - not sure the detail behind the work done will have to ask.

Front wheel bearing fixed for excessive play once.

Flywheel grooved back in 2003 most expensive item at R6K.

Any surprises here? Need to track down what happened after motorplan!

Wow that looks clean - do love it in white (reminds me of my ex-330i!)

Think it would be a great idea to start an "e36 M3 gem/bargain" thread!

I vote for Muney to be the primary contributor :thumb:
