E36 M3 Oil warning light

Hi, I'm new to these forums. I have a 1998 E36 M3 4 door. Recently when I start her the oil light at the bottom below the speedo blinks 9 times in red and then goes off. The same thing happens when I turn the ignition to position 2 without starting the vehicle.
The light does not come on while I drive only at start up. Could anybody offer me some advice as to what the cause could be or a remedy?

Many Thanks

an intro would be nice

sounds like your oil level sensor is on its way out check the oil level on the dipstick if it full then its definitely the sensor
its not an oil pump problem

Sorry about that. I am from Cape Town and this is my first M3. The oil sensor or can it also be the oil sender unit?

Sorry, on the 4 door where does the oil level indicator lamp and oil pressure indicator lamp lie on the dash? Thanks.

The oil level on the dipstick is well on the mark.

oil level sensor is mounted on the sump
oil pressure sensor is located on the block

the light that blinks on the dash is the oil level light

the other light on the dash is the oil pressure light if that comes on stop the car immediately this light will not blink its either on or off

Bud.

As far as I know that is the low oil pressure idiot light. I would not drive it at ALL anymore until it's properly diagnosed unless you have the cash to rebuild the engine

M3 has two lights the one on top next to the battery light is the oil pressure light and the one at the bottom is the oil level light
@phoenix m3 is different to the other models other models have only the oil pressure light

Its the one at the bottom not the top. In this instance seeing that the oil is at the correct level, is it safe to drive the car?

Common problem. No need to stress but.... also this light flashing is cause by the oil pressure sensor by the oil filter housing.

So should I be stressing if the cause is the oil pressure sensor at the oil filter housing? Or can I use the vehicle and have this followed up with my next planned service?
