E36 m3 misfire and swinging

Hzit Guys,

I have an 98 model e36 m3, I noticed 2 issues from the time I purchased the car.

1. the car gets a miss between 2000 and 3000 rpm, if I accelerate pass 3000 rpm the miss stops.

2. Recently I noticed when I run the car for sometime and it gets hot, the car gets a weird miss and losses all power. If I accelerate sometime it clears up for a moment and sometimes it gets worse. I usually leave the car parked for a while to cool down then I drive it home.

My cousin also has a same model m3 with a misfire as well, so we basically swopped coil packs to see if there is any difference.

My car ran well, however after driving for sometime the weird misfire started again and losses power.
Left the car to cool down, then drove it home and parked off.

Today i tried starting, but it only swings, refuses to start.

Any solutions or advise ?

Check the fuel system( relay,pump,filter) .

Hi,

I had the same symptoms on my e36 M3. It turned out to be the vanos that needed servicing. New seals (besian kit). Had to change a coil pack and all the plugs just for peace of mind. One was cracked.

First thing that needs doing is Diagnostics
Once you have identified the areas of failure you can attend to them.

Coils and plugs either work or they do not. Very unusual to have a semi failed coil or plug.
Vacuum leaks can also cause misfires on the s50B30/32 engines.
