E36 M3 Coupe 3.0 - OBC - Check Coolant Level

Hi guys, quick question...

My car has been telling me via the OBC that I should check the coolant level (started last night). This only happens when I switch off the car, not while driving or on start-up.

I have checked the coolant level, and it's fine. Also there is no heating above normal or anything. My logic tells me that it is sensor related, but I am not schooled enough to know this for sure.

Can anyone provide some input and advice??

Thank you,
Fuzz

I have the same car as you and had the same problem about a year ago. It says check coolant level and when you do all is fine.

On the water bottle cap, the are wires that fit on the top, they tend to become brittle and contact is thus not great.

Just fix that up and insulate it and you should be good to go. Never came on again after that.

Hope this helps.

My sensor also corroded itself beyond function. :=):

But yeah also worth just checking the wiring.

in my case it happened the second time, but that time i had coolant all over the floor. had a crack in the pipe from the radiator, replaced it and all was well.

so its worth to double check first.
