E36 M3 coil over or shock options - ASAP pls!

Hey gents

Fetched stock springs for the M3 from IRJ today, and turns out the shocks could do with replacing.

So considering the implied cost of that, I may as well consider coil overs... Hear that whimpering crying sound? Pay no attention - it's just my wallet.

If coil overs are out of the immediate budget, could someone recommend a good set of shocks and where to get them at a good price tomorrow morning? Monroe's been recommended...

Also, considering that I might fit a 25mm Tein kit at a later stage, should I perhaps consider shorter shocks, or would the stock ones cope with that kind of modest drop?

Thanks in advance!

Have heard that monroe's prices for BMW shocks are still a bit on the ridiculous side, though haven't confirmed this yet.

You could try bemows in pta they sell bilstein shocks, not sure if they have for the M3, but it is worth a try I guess.

You could also try imcomex, as they are an importer of bilstein, maybe try and get a bilstein spring and shock set.

There is also afrishox they have bilstein and H&R, might also be worth a try.

bc racing coilovers...
once you price what springs and shocks are going to cost you it will make more sense to pay 8k for the coilovers

i have heard nothing bad about them they really do seem to be very good quality for the money

griffen and calypso have them and are very happy with them :)

From what I have learned, a standard shock will handle a 25mm drop.

Once you start treading in the 40mm + territory, then a different length shock comes into play.

Me correct guys?

I am finding it difficult to source the BC Racing coilovers. Best price I got for Monroes was R5600 for front and back. Gabriel apparently do not make shocks for the E36 M3

Thanks Heven, still dont think its worth it to change just the shocks. Coilovers are a better option given the benefits and price difference.

PM griffen or calypso and find out where they got them its really not worth going with a shock/spring combo at those prices...

Organized a set of Monroe Sensa-Tracs at a pretty decent price - being fitted to the car as we speak...

As much as I'd have loved going the coilover route, it's a bit too dear right at this moment, and can't find anyone open this time of year - so I might as well just go with stock suspension for the time being.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

Be quiet my aching wallet.

Well, including supply and fitment of the shocks + fitting the stock springs, some new bushes, and a tyre onto the left rear (all of which I supplied), balancing of the tyre and wheel alignment, the whole exercise is coming to R5300.

Good price that. I was quoted R6250 for Monroes fitted all four with wheel alignment at SupaQuick
