E36 keys

Is there anyone here I can talk to about replacement keys for an E36, or with repairs to the key?

A friend of a friend needs his keys battery replaced, or a new key altogether and it is very expensive via the dealer.

His attempt to DIY has failed :nonono:

what is the actual problem?

Hi hoosain. The guy tried to change the battery himself now the buttons don't work anymore, neither does the central locking, but he can't start and lock the car using the key.

do you mean can start and lock his car with the key?
if thats the case it needs to be re programmed which is quite easy
does his key have 3 or 2 buttons?

Yes can. :fishwack: Typo. Sorry.

It's a three button key. So it only needs to be reprogrammed? Where can he have this done and at what estimate cost?

Thanks for taking the time and replies guys

It is a simple diy. I havent done it in a while, but you get into the car, close the door. Turn the key into the on position for 5sec.

Switch off.

Remove key and point at review mirror.

Hold down unlock button and while holding it down press the arm button 3times.

Let go of buttons, Doors should then lock and unlock.

Test

So the key works "manually" to lock unlock and start,
but electronically it doesn't work any more

that means you need to programme the key to the car, and just "google" it or YouTube it....its a easy enough process to do on your own, no need to go and pay someone else to do it.[video=youtube]

This procedure is 100% correct
If it doesnt work the first time keep on trying it will
