Hello everyone

First, i'm sorry for my english usage, i'm a frenchie :D

Here is the problem : Im about to see a 1994 318 is e36 that i want to buy.

Here is a photo :

When i asking the owner more informations about the body kit and Dakar Yellow, he said me that the car is a Motorsport Edition. He looks very serious and honest, but i have some doubts about the M edition.

The front bumper seems stock, and i never seen any Motorsport edition 2P.

A little precision : this is an european model, i dont know if models defer between US/EU.

I'm looking for informations since 2 days on the web, but no real explications.

Thats why i'm here, bmwfanatics looks like the most competent forum about bmw.

Thanks !

Hi there, thats not a motorsport edition, It has the wrong front and rear bumper, diffuser, side sills and door beadings. The mags however are the M3 rims, the door mirrors are off an M3 and the boot spoiler is almost a motorsport spoiler.

Nice car none the less, with some work, will be awesome.

Bud im sure they were suppose to have the motor sport bumper M3 type! but ill go do some homework and come back to you! Welcome to this BMW family you will feel more than home soon!
Take the NR plate registration nr to a local spares shop! when i lived in the U.K the spares shop can give you every detail about your car with just the NR plate!

Thank you guys for the infos, and the "welcome" :)

I think the car will be great with a real M front bumper, the rear one suits me. I probably will ask you for estetics advices about that car in the future :)

So, is it a real stock Dakar yellow ? I mean standard 318is had this option ?

I will check the exact model with the NR.

Look on one of the front strut towers, if it has a plaque with the colour Dakar Yellow written on it, it most likely is the real deal. But I actually dont know if it came in that colour.

The only M tech stuff I see on that are the clear indicators, rear light clusters, door mirrors and the sunflower alloys. No pics of the inside though so can't say what M tech stuff is in there.Dakar yellow is a stock colour....I have seen a nice E36 323 compact in that colour

Certainly not the same as South African specification Motorsport I and II , but UK specs were different to SA specs , cant find direct comparisons though .

Its not a UK one either-check where the steering wheels is and the french number plate.....UK drive on the same side of the road as SA.
Its definately not an M-tech model though...looks like a couple of DIY M-tech upgrades

Thanks for the explanation guys.

In france, i see a lot of 318 is e36 with those sidekits, rear bump and front bump, all with leather interior and M3 doors mirror, its strange.

Well, do you think a brand new M3 front bumper in dakar yellow will suit with the rest of the car ?

I will post new pics soon.

Thanks again

The looks like it might have been resprayed. The indicator lenses both front and back are not BMW but aftermarket as well as are the M3 mirrors. The front kidney grills are also from a later model which might indicate the car suffered accident damage. The rear wing is not correct neither and should have a slight ridge in the middle with a Motorsport sticker. It looks like it has warped from the sun due to being a poor quality after market unit.
The possibility of this car is that it was in a bad accident, resprayed and a lot of the components where put on that where cheaper than OEM.
