E36 Fog lights install

I bought 2 front fog lights for R400 from the local scrapyard Rosbys about 3 weeks ago. I removed my what do you call them hole covering things and figured out how to mount them in a few minutes. The wiring etc was all there. I then realised I do not have a button for front fog lights, only rear. Today I got one from Rosbys for R300.

I installed it earlier, but the fogs does not come on. I checked there is power at the switch and it goes on & off when pressing the buttons. The parks has to be on else it wont work. THe rear fogs comes on as it used to. I check the fuses and it sayd no 15 & no 22 for front fogs. There is power on no 22, but not on no 15. A friend mentioned that it needs a relay as well. I see there are open spaces for relays in my fusebox.

Next I am going to check if there is power at the plug that goes into the fog light. I dont think there will be power.

Am I on the right track?

it is a nice warm night here in East London , so .....lets go look at the e36 front fogs :fencelook::fencelook:
There is a row of three relays next to the row of fuses numbered 11-20 . the middle one works the front fog lights . the relay has Siemens V23134-N52-X171 on it and the BMW logo then the bm part number 6136-8 353 447 .
This is on a 1996 328i , hope yours is similar .
You may have a similar relay doing another function , use it to check the operation of the fogs . The left fog supply plug has a brown and a yellow wire with a brown stripe on it .

Ok I found that exact Siemens relay. I used it but front fogs does not light up. I think where I removed it has something to do with the rear fogs, because when switching on rear fogs it does not work. Only when switching on both front and rear the dash indicates both is on and the rear lights up. I will find one of them relays tomorrow and also check power on the plugs at the front fogs.

Ok I got some relays from scrapyard. ANd then it still did`nt work. Guess what? The fog light I bought did not come with light bulbs. So I got a set of Osram daybreakers. And now its working. I also replaced my stock park bulbs with the white LED lights. Now I`m missing those angel eyes. I saw at Autostyle http://www2.autostyle.co.za/product/13626/AngelEyeLightKit/ the kit is R495. Hows the ones being sold at Chinatown?

Hi Guys

I just bought another E36 316i and it did not come with standard fog lights. i bought the switch and relay but can't seem to find the cables and plugs for fog lights itself. i hope i dont have to install them on my own. Or maybe its located in a different place from factory. Please help
