E36 coil screws

Hi gents I'm urgently looking for some coil screws for my e36!
My x-monkey mechanic started sniffing!and stuffed my car up!
I found that some of the coils are being held by one screw and some of them the threads on the screws are stuffed. Others missing the screws entirely!!

Anybody know of a place that I can purchase these? It's a 1995 e36 325i vert btw!

Any help will be appreciated! Urgently need to get this car running as I need to send me daily runner into panel beaters!

From your pic it looks like those are studs with nuts. I always thought they were bolts. Il check on mine this weekend. Take a sample to superbolt in edenvale. Not hard to replace at all.

just get a set of cap screws that are long enough to use the full threads.

hopefully they havent been stripped

Ah yes,

It seems to be studs....The studs would have to be removed....sometimes a very easy job, other times...a ball ache of note...

Unless you use the right tool...which I seem to have lost...otherwise i would over to remove them for you....

found that some of the threads have been stripped on the head itslef, can that just be rethreaded, or would that have to be sent to the engineers?

found that when the car is cold the idle is hundreds and when your rev it up, she perrs! but as soon as it gets hot it starts missing and theres erratic idling, sounded like a plug but i changed all 6??

could it be a suppressor?
find it very strange bec it only does it when the car heats up?

Im not sure how the studs are set I would be worried about cracking the head when trying to replace them...

might be a better option to find another way to fasten the coils they do not bear any load but need to be fastened so they dont vibrate...

if you had seen what condition my car was returned in, you would cry, i know i was, other than that i got about 15k worth of damages to fix!:nonono: I had to track this guy down and get my car back.so much for a repectable guy that was a several time mechanic of the year at alberante!:yuck:

- you mentioned trying to tighten/fasten those coils on? any ideads on how i could go about doing this? ive tried various options like thread tape to hold the bolts,?

how badly are the thread damaged? you might get away with just tapping them again and putting on new bolts...

some of them are quite bad, like the bolt can just be pulled out with no abrasion? so almost smooth in other words?

sweet thanks bud, ive got one of my mates from bmw coming to have a look at the vehicle at my house on sat! lets see what he comes up with, if its something the two of us cant DIY den the car will def be coming that way!

What diameter holes are on your coilpacks? If they bigger than an 8mm thread, then i would advise you remove all studs, drill and retap the holes to 8mm.

Alternatively...Im not sure if its available, but i dont think impossible to get hold of., you can get a stud made up or modified to have an M8 thread on the side that will go into the cover, and it will have a 6mm thread on the side where the coil pack slides over...

If you not too clued up, dont just wing it, it can cause serious time delays and expenses if you cock it up.

As Moranor mentioned, they woul dhave to be secured down, i would assume the vibration interupts the spark and signal....hence the erratic idling and so on...always good to check it at night, you could possibly see the spark jumping around, best way to check is lean over the engine and place one hand strategically close to the coil packs, if you have a sudden spike in power to illuminate the light bulb in your head, then its definitely jumping spark...just make sure you dont have your jaw clinched, cause it could melt your fillings together....LOL!!!!

Thanks JAy unfortuntely im a very very junior mech in the work so wouldnt wanna try anything to extream without a expert there to assist! last thing i wanna do it end up welding my fillings together and then having my car and my self under surgery....hahahaha

thanks will check if the coils are shooting spark correctly and not jumping around, i have done that before :rollsmile:

Looks like u need to tap it and put in a helicoil. Then use a normal bolt or cap screw.
