E36 Center Console

Hey guys,

What have you guys done with your center consoles?

I managed to get the tape storage thing out without breaking anything but now its just a pretty deep, rough edged box...

I was thinking of getting some nice material and removing the box completely leaving just a tray looking thing covered in something smooth.

If you're not sure what I mean, this bad boy right here.

I was sick of not having a place for my wallet in the car because of that damn tape holder. So I bought one without it from cliftons M3 center. Much happier now and I think it would be your best option.

They offered to just trade for the other one but I kept it just incase I ever need it.

I modified mine by removing the inner part of the holder and fitted my pre amp in there....when the center arm rest is down, you cannot see the pre amp :rollsmile:

I have a spare console without the cassette holder,black in colour. It came like that from the factory. If anyone wants it PM me.

I took my 325i 's casette holder out , cut a piecs of white painted hardboard to fit and used it as cell phone sleeping place . Must now do same on 328i

Can you get an armrest in a car that didn't come with it standard? I'd LOVE an armrest in my baby!

Bought it for R200. Would have been free if I traded in.
Will post a pic tomorrow.

Its the same as this one from my previous E36. Just black. You can get any color and just spray it.

Some cars came with an armrest and cupholder console. Mostly the Cabs and Coups. Its a pretty rare find, I was looking for one as well.

Yeah you can get an armrest in, but you need to buy a centre console with an armrest.

I ripped the stupid tape holder out of mine and built a box out of Black ABS plastic! works like a dream. If only I had measured my wallet before doing it because I made it about 5mm too shallow to fit my wallet in :thumbdo:

How did you guys tie it down ? with cable ties by anychance :idea:

I also did that, and also had the problem with it being very loose.. I didn't get around to sorting it out though :/

@ Doomsdaya - what about double sided tape ?

That could work Ray, but the gap is too narrow on the sides and bottom so it wont sit flush

Mine was loose as well, I cut a piece of hard flat plastic to fit the underneath of the holder and mine now fits nice and snug.
