I noticed the key to good economy with these cars is to use all that torque. i.e dont rev the motor, but change early, the torque on tap allows more than sufficient forward progress.

There is no adjustment.
You have to make sure everything is serviced and working properly.
Make sure you have done the service:
- change oil and filter
- fuel filter
- spark plugs (make sure you use the correct OEM or equivalent)
- air filter
- check for any vacuum leaks, cracks on intake manifold.
- check all wires to sensors like air flow meter etc
