E36 alarm/ radio

I want to remove the original radio and put in an MP3 front loader cd player. Just concerned that the alarm operates via the radio or is this not a problem?

as far as I can remember, the radio had a small fitting on the back part which slotted into a receptacle that triggered the alarm, possibly just a magnetic switch, just remove this component and leave it behind.

actually might like to disagree....when I took my radio out, and then locked the car, the "RED" centre consol light flashed to indicate that there was a component that was being bypassed by the alarm system, the remainder of the alarm was however still intact.

I also once removed the radio whilst I hadn't turned on the ignition and cancelled the "CODE" function on the onboard computor, and as the radio slid out ...flashing and hooting etc

I recently replaced my OEM deck in my e36 with an aftermarket alpine deck.
The alarm is not affected in any way.

my sentiments exactly i owned many e36's and always replaced the oem radio with no alarm issues
