6x9's belong in a citigolf, not BMW :thumbdo:

What type of sound are you after? If SQL, a decent set of splits and single 10/12" sub should offer much better performance.

I suggest you take a step back, suggest what you want out of the system and your approximate budget - there's a few sound gurus on the forum who would be able to advise on your best options

+1

In my e36 I got standard bmw speakers + 12inch JL audio sub. Looking at getting something similar to freerider setup with the backboard speakers.

Dont waste your time putting in 6x9s.....pioneer limpids FTW!!!

Sell them and put in abit more and get a set of limpids.....Conect it up to a low power amp and you set....

Will those limpids fit into the standard speaker location without any alterations?

Depends what size speakers are in there at the moment. Problem is Limpids are hard to find these days....I have used the Calibra split system in my car before. Best value for money and sounds great. I paid around R500

The look of 6x9s look terrible in my opinion.

I mounted a set of pioneer 6x9 in my old e36 , I took the standard speakers out and fitted the 6x9 under the parcel shelf . I drilled four holes per speaker into the parcel shelf and used bolts and nuts to mount them . All wired up to the standard head unit .

6x9's are the biggest load of rubbish on the market...

Split system, sub n amp... You'll get a way better sound quality.

Dude I'm with you all the way - correct me if I'm wrong my day had a e36 Motorsport and tht came with limpids standard... Sounded wicked.

Prob the best way to go more bass than a 6x9 and better quality output as they fit into the original speaker housing:thumbs:

Im not sure what came out on the E36. never owned one. But in a BM i would say put something decent as long as the OEM covers go back on.

My e46 and my e87 had/have all stock speakers and sounded great. The only thing they lack is good clear treble. I just bought my own set of tweeters and fitted them in the original housing. Looks OEM but had crystal clear sound.

Thats classy with little effort. With a BMW less = more....if that makes sense :flyfun:

Is this a sedan or a hatch? Sorry, it's not clear by the posts...

I agree with pretty much everyone here. Forget 6x9's! They are very inefficient by design - they produce Sub-bass and detract from the mid frequencies...

My suggestion is get a decent set of 6" Splits for the front doors and then a pair of subs for the boot:
Hatch - 2x10" Subs in a neat sealed box (excuse my SQ ears)
Sedan - 2x12" Ported through to the cabin

You can't go wrong!! :=):

You can fit 5.25 inch speakers in the front kick panels ( I used Sony X-Plod ), a six inch may just fit , tweeters can be mounted in place of the OE ( Nokia !! ) tweeters . Same at the back with sub/s as required .
