Hi guys 4 gals,
I ran into a bit of a problem earlier today, my rear left brake pad (the outer one) flew out of its place:censored:. I know what your thinking, impossible, but trust me, it is about 60% worn, an slipped in between the disc and the pad guide and flew out onto the road.

My question is does anyone know what the rear disc on the 328i should look like and whats is dimensions are. I have a feeling that the discs in the car are wrong.

Thanks.

Hi Lev,

The rear brake pads for the e36 is a bit smaller than the front one's... maybe you should check the front one's as well just incase someone has put the wrong one's in the front as well.

I don't know what the dimensions for the brake pads are, but rather go to someone that knowns alot of brake pads etc.

IMHO this can happen because of two things , incorrect disc pads ( the thickness is too small ) or the disc itself is worn too thin ( 8.4 mm min thickness ) if I remember correctly .
To the best of my knowledge the ATE ( original equipment ) part numbers are :
Front disc pads are AG 593 and rear disc pads are AG 538 .
Rear discs are 110-0202 and if they are ventilated are 119-0107 ( same as 323i of 96-99
Any good spares shop should have the disc measurements in their catalogues .
Hope the piston did not score the disc .
Cheers

Sup guys big up for the reps, the good folks at EBC (UK) had the OEM specs on the page, after checking these out it was evident that the discs were wrong, the car had discs for the other E36's in the back. We sorted it out this morning the good folk at Hurtshill (Newlands, JHB) :thumbsup:and Quantum Spares(Wynberg,JHB) helped us out with spec etc. Got the discs and new pads ->>car is running fine , just letting the discs/pads set in.

On the lighter side I'd like to find the clown that put in the wrong parts.:cursin::cursin::cursin::hammerhead::hammerhead::hammerhead:
Later.

ah, bummer, autoquip in centurion once was kind enough to fit my 540 with 528i brakes :) all round... lol, so a few km's later they cracked and warped. to keep the story short..
I was pissed off :)

Its frikken scary what some hacks can do to brakes, Mike also had some scary incidents, and the braking system of my E34 was also in bad shape, with previous repairs.

Luckaly, your BMW braking system is one the best in the world, and even if you lost rear brakes completly, your fronts will still be fine as they run on a seperate circuit, but ya, if you were at speed and needed to do an emergency stop, who knows what would have happened.

You can of course turn to realoem as well, I think they have the details, if not, look at www.alfabrakes.co.za as well
