E36 328i Knocking noise

Hi Guys.

My car has started making a knocking noise from the rear part of the drivetrain. It goes away when you press the clutch, and occurs mostly at low revs, irrespective of whether you are accelerating or rolling in gear. Wierd thing is it starts to happen only after the car has been driven for a while.

Any ideas?

look at the bushes 1st its unlighly the diff is broken

you guys think there is any possibilty of it being one of the driveshafts? How would you check if it is the driveshaft?

whats the frequency? if it sounds like its going the same speed as the wheels it should be after the diff if not look at the diff or before...

My E46 was making a funky knocking sound at low revs too, mainly in lower gears. Took it to mechanic and he just tightened up the prop. No problems since.
