Have u tested the solenoid?
Do you have it connected properly?
Do u have 12v from the big red cable? Do u have 12v from one of the thinner cables when the key is in the start position?

And please......an intro with pics of ur car would be nice..........

Hi Daniel

Thanks for the reply, will post pics shortly, still new to this...The only thing i havent tested is your point 3. Can you still get below 12V even though it is a new Battery. Also the car has been in the garage for almost a year...Could it be that the motor is stuck or should the starter still be able to turn the motor.

Thanks in advance.

If the battery is new....U should be reading around 12.5 volts across the battery.
I'm not sure if it will work(maybe one of the other ou's can confirm). Pull the spark plugs and turn the motor over at the crankshaft pulley. This way you will know if the motor turns or not. Did u try push starting the car?

Hi Daniel

I will try turning the motor at the pulley this weekend. All my tyres need air so havent try that yet. But thanks for the info ...i will keep you posted.

Sounds like a solenoid issue as Daniel pointed out.

If the starter motor turns its still good, however - the solenoid is needed to engage the starter shaft to the ring gear on the fly wheel or flex plate(Auto's).

Ignition switches can also be faulty. Make sure the motor turns first,manually...be it pulleys or the crank.

Once you have confirmed that...if you look on the solenoid, the main cable from your starter is connected to the solenoid, using a INSULATED screwdriver, bridge or "short" the solenoid wire(thick wire) to the small lug or where the thinner wire connects, that should allow the solenoid to kick in and turn the starter(if this works and the motor turns over - the problem is probably the ignition switch not making good contact inside).

Hope it helps.

Hi Bmw Fanatics

I have checked if the motor could turn at the crank / pulley and it was stuck, it did not want to turn. What would the next step be. Please help.

Remove all the spark plugs.

Spray some Q20 into the plug hole, give it about 30min, then try turning the crank again.

Thanks for the info. I will check if there is oil in because the car has been standing for while. i will also try the Q20 method. if there isnt any oil in should i try throwing oil in and try turning the motor again ?

Hi Bmw Fanatics,

I am finally back. It turned out my motor has seized and that was the reason it did not want to turn. We busy overhaul the motor but got stuck. Two of the pistons does not want to come out. It has been soaked but no luck. Any info on removing these pistons would be much appreciated. I will in the meantime read the forum for possible solutions.
